About Hanshi Scarda

Hanshi has been practicing the martial arts 50+ years. He earned his 7th degree from Abe Sensei; Head instructor JSKA, making Hanshi one of the highest ranking black belts in USA recognized by Japan. Hanshi went from student to competitor, to coach and is now teaching children of all ages. His specializes in teaching children with special needs who lack confidence. His classes help to bring the children to their full potential with patience, firm but gentle teaching, and caring techniques. He spends his free time expanding his knowledge & bringing the knowledge all students. His students have gone on to be productive members of the community; Doctors, lawyers, Law enforcement. His students drop to share how martial arts helped them in their life by giving them the confidence to try things that many think would have been impossible to achieve. The proof is that they bring their children to our dojo. “Legend the Right Move for Life!”

About Sensei Bernard

Sensei Bernard is a third degree Black Belt in Shotokan Karate. He earned his Shodan at 13 from Sensei Graves. Education is essential to Sensei Bernard. He earned his master degree from Teachers College(Columbia University)his doctorate from CUNY Graduate School/developmental in psychology. He is a passionate educator. He first taught the arts in Queens where he grew up. Then taught at various NYC Colleges-Wagner College & College of Staten Island-St. Francis College. After a short hiatus from teaching he returned to teaching at Legend Shotokan Karate where his two young children attend. Karate has given Sensei Bernard considerable confidence and significantly shaped his character, which he hopes to pass on to his children and the students in his class. He believes in Gichin Funakoshi words "The Ultimate aim of karate lies not in victory or defeat but in the perfection of the character of its participants."

About Sensei Ronnie

Sensei Ronnie is a lifelong student; he started with Legend at the age of 12 at Walt Whitman Jr. High School in Brooklyn where Legend was participating in community outreach program where Legend volunteered towhere teach the students in an after school program. At the age of 21 Sensei Ronnie joined the US Army – 82nd airborne division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He served his country and was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. Upon returning home he quickly returned to the Legend and continued his studies in the art. Sensei Ronnie became a member of our teaching staff in Brooklyn and now joined us in Staten Island; he has been teaching for 10 years. He loves sharing his knowledge with the students and watching them grow; their achievements are his sense of giving back to the community.
